Search Engine Optimisation
Though the geeky acronym, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), may scare you it's something that you need to be aware of if you intend to create a successful website that is visible to people looking for you via search engines such as Yahoo, Live and Google.
The term basically describes the process of creating or modifying a website to ensure it abides by the requirements of the big search engines. Simple Site helps by creating content that is well structured and by putting necessary background information into each page such as descriptions and keywords.
Simple Site is not artificially intelligent however. You must do some of the work! Here are some suggestions to optimise your website for the search engines.
- When creating or modifying a page:
- Give it a relevant title that relates to the information on the page.
- Give it a description which is informative and describes what information a visitor can expect to find on that page.
- Give it some keywords which relate to the information on the page. Ensure they are relevant, and avoid using the same keywords on every page just to try to get listed in the search engines. Remember, they are intelligent and will compare your keywords to the actual page content. If they are too different, you might not get listed at all! Keep it relevant!
- When creating or modifying a template (intended for your website administrator or web designer) make sure you include the description and keyword meta tags. For an example refer to the example template.
As there are many factors outside of what Simple Site manages (your template, failing to fill in all content SEO requirements (title, description, keywords)), it cannot be guarenteed that your website will be fully optimised merely by using Simple Site.
